This past Christmas marked my one-year anniversary on Twitter. I thought I’d reflect on the tips and tricks I’ve learned about the social network over the past 12 months:

TOP RETAILER

Hillyer House

Paige Riley, owner
Ocean Springs, Miss.
Have you reduced your inventory levels? What needs to happen before you will feel comfortable increasing your inventory levels?

Our sales decreased last October, and we immediately started decreasing inventory by approximately 10% to 15% and started reordering more frequently. Our sales have increased during some months this year, and I have increased stock accordingly.

TOP RETAILER

Crescent Moon at The Cotton Exchange

Joan and Mike Loch, co-owners
Wilmington, N.C.
How do this year’s sales compare to recent years’? Are you seeing a consistent decline or a slow improvement?

We are below last year approximately 22% and approximately 32% behind 2007. Starting in July of this year we have seen a consistent improvement, and we anticipate making up for the sluggish first part of 2009 during the upcoming holiday season.

BEST GUILD STORE

Allanstand Craft Shop

Myra Brown, gallery manager
Asheville, N.C.
How do this year’s sales compare to recent years’? Are you seeing a consistent decline or a slow improvement?

In 2007, Allanstand had one of the best years we have had since the 1990s. This year’s sales are down compared to 2007 and 2008 sales. We are beginning to see a slow improvement this October.
