Jewelry 2016: Mixing It Up!

When it comes to jewelry, the new rules of the game are that there aren’t any rules.

 

1 – Inspired by urban landscapes, Tara Locklear’s designs are constructed from industrial and repurposed materials like the recycled broken skateboards she used to create this 20-inch Gem Collect necklace.

 

 

2 – Broken Line Earrings, from Texas metalsmith Lisa Linbrugger of DeLisa Designs, are handcrafted from sterling silver and oxidized copper.

3 – Ann Marie Cianciolo creates rings that are wonderfully square, then stacks them for added visual effect, like this set in 14k rose gold, white gold, sterling silver and diamonds.

4 – Cut, carved, heat-formed and painted Lucite flower bracelets, crafted by Memphis George designer Michelle Sabol, incorporate topaz, fabricated sterling silver, peridot and a generous helping of whimsy.

5 – Los Angeles designer and 2016 NICHE Award winner David Alvarado, of Irthly Jewelled Adornments, created this eco-elegant Affinity Sans ring from 18k rose gold and diamonds with an emerald slice center.

6 – Lara Ginzburg, of DesignsByLara, hand-cuts ginko leaves from 24k gold foil as centerpieces in these enamel-on-copper dangle earrings, part of her botanical Black & Gold Gingko Leaves Collection.

7 – Using the lost wax casting method, Pennsylvania designer Richelle Walk created this eye-catching group of handcrafted sterling silver pendant necklaces with semi-precious stones for the Richelle Leigh Collection.

8 – Lema J Design makes jewelry that is not only beautiful but also purposeful, with 100 percent of its profits earmarked for the Karma for Cara Foundation to help patients fight leukemia. Each cuff is crafted out of tanned and dyed stingray and python leathers, then lined in colorful lambskin and finished with daring designs.

9 – New from Urban Charm designer Kim Lewis is this bouncy beaded pendulum pendant with copper chain.

10 – Offerings from Ilanit Shalev, of the Ilanit Shalev Art Company, feature handmade clutch purses in soft sheepskin leather with fused glass accents and magnetic close; outsized rings; and bracelets with fused glass pendants on colorful leather straps.

11 – Each piece of jewelry designed by artist Amanda Hagerman is carefully constructed from silver, gold, gems and porcelain enamel to have an enchanting and rustic feel, as is evident in her show-stopping Rocky Ridge Burst Necklace.

12 – The Cosma Necklace, in sterling silver with an 8mm white topaz, is part of the new Astra Collection from Lacee Alexandra Artisan Jewelry. All pieces in the collection, says designer/owner Lacee Norris, were inspired by celestial movements and textures found in the sky, and feature ethical gemstones and recycled metals.

14 – Distinctive, modern, industrial sleek: that’s how metalsmith Michelle Gohn describes the cuff bracelets she creates for Michelle Simon Jewelry. These, made from reclaimed argentium sterling silver, have hand-textured and oxidized outer surfaces with smooth, polished inner surfaces.

15 – Known for her gifted sense of color, Minneapolis artist Teresa Goodall creates fanciful assemblages that are guaranteed to generate attention. “Odilon,” shown here, includes bone, horn, resin, glass, antique button and stoneware beads on a linen cord.

16 – Maryland artist Sara Rivera’s specialty is the Japanese technique of mokume-gane (17 layers of alternating copper and silver), exemplified in this Quad Mozaic pendant in 10k gold and argentium silver.
