There has been a changing of the guard at the Buyers Market of American Craft—just in time for celebration of the premier wholesale tradeshow’s 30th anniversary. Former show director Christine Kloostra has stepped aside after five years to become the marketing director for the Detroit Institute of Arts, paving the way for new Buyers Market director Rebecca Rosen Mercado.
“Rebecca brings fresh energy and new ideas to the Buyers Market,” said Wendy Rosen, president and CEO of The Rosen Group, in announcing the appointment. “We plan to work closely together to attract the next generation of exhibitors, and to identify and open new markets for their American-made products.”
Mercado moves into the top slot from her former position as the BMAC’s jewelry manager. Since her arrival in 2009, she has expanded the show’s Green Exhibitor program and helped launch the company’s newest venture, NICHE: The Show, held annually during Jewelry Week in Las Vegas. She brings to her new role the benefit of long-time experience working at Buyers Market shows and in key departments at The Rosen Group, the trade show’s parent company founded by her trailblazing mother Wendy Rosen.
“I have literally grown up with this company,” says Mercado. “I have a lot of respect for what the Buyers Market and its mission mean to our artists and retailers. It’s easy to stay motivated when you’re working with such a passionate group of people.”
The 30th anniversary Buyers Market of American Craft tradeshow will take place Feb. 18-20 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia.
